Paul Roberts Obituary

After a brief and brave battle, Paul passed away peacefully surrounded with the love of his family Saturday, August 2, 2025.

Cherished partner of Lila Davies and the devoted father of Rose (Jeremy) and Wolfe. Grandad to Django.  Lifelong best friend to Chris Burgis. Brother of David.

Born December 29, 1962, in Thunder Bay, Paul was predeceased by his mother Carol Edgar (née Swinton) in 2018 and his father Lawrence Roberts in 2019.

Known affectionately as “Paulie” or “Tall Pall,” Paul is lovingly remembered by his family, friends, and communities in Port Perry and South River.

.A resilient adventurer from a young age, Paul faced and overcame many challenges in his youth. His drive for exploration led him to the Arctic and London, UK — he was always drawn to a change of scenery and a new horizon to discover.

Paul found a lifelong connection to Algonquin Park as a young man, beginning his first career as a guide. His deep love for the bush, fishing, and adventure lives on in his children — especially Wolfe, who has followed in his father’s footsteps.

Paul played baseball with friends in Nestleton and Port Perry, often saying those were some of his happiest days. He spent much of his adult life in Scugog, where he ran his own business and raised his family. He was especially proud of contributing to the set construction for the first X-Men movie, including Magneto’s lair.

Paul spent many hours in hockey arenas alongside Wolfe for many years. You might remember him from the dressing room helping you tie up goalie pads. He had a gig in Port Perry doing the music in the announcers box for a while. Much Led Zeppelin was played.

He also supported Rose’s dance life behind the scenes — building sets and even appearing on stage in a recital or two, dancing proudly beside his daughter.

Paul was immeasurably proud of his children, referring to them often as his Pride and Joy. Whenever he could, he would join Wolfe at various fishing lodges where Wolfe was working as head chef, to spend time with his son in beautiful places. He made countless trips to spend time with Rose in Kingston, while she pursued her career with Correctional Service Canada, often showing up with flowers and something delicious to prepare and enjoy.

Paul enjoyed the last twelve years with Lila, Rose and Wolfe, venturing on some amazing trips with his family to some beautiful places. He took more trips into Algonquin Park and explored Chaudière Lodge, Titled Took Nest, Ogascanan Lodge, Loon Lodge, Plummer’s Lodge and took many trips with Air Ivanhoe.Paul believed in having at minimum five minutes of fun everyday, even in hard times. He loved road trips, identifying birds, strawberry ice cream and great tunes. He took pleasure and joy from simple things in life.

A gentle giant and natural teacher, Paul touched the lives of many. Through his selflessness, mentorship, and storytelling, he passed on wisdom with humor, compassion, and warmth. If you were lucky, Paul bent your ear — and left you better for it.A celebration of life will occur at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made in Paul’s name to Sick Kids Hospital Foundation.
