Last week we lost one of the last true matriarchs of Eagle Lake, Donna Catherine LeClaire (nee JOHNSTON), who passed suddenly but surrounded by love.
She was the devoted mother of Marc (Leanne), Nicole (Carl), and Ryan. She was the adored grandmother of Benjamin, Taylor, Katie, and Gracie.
She dedicated her life to helping others as a nurse for over 20 years in Winnipeg, then moved to North Bay and worked another 20 years. Donna survived the winter so she could spend every warm day at the cottage, somehow managing to never once get her hair wet when she swam.
The last chapter of her life was her bravest as she fought against a condition that doctors couldn't even name. But through it all, she didn't let it get in the way of cottage Christmases, long weekends with the family, or dock days with friends. She made the most of what she had left and even made an important new friendship with her angel Suzette.
After a long and challenging battle, she is now at rest and reunited with her husband Eddy, her sisters Beth and Nancy, as well as her parents Don T. and Alma Johnston.
To honor Donna's wishes, there will be no funeral service. For those considering a memorial donation, the family asks that such be made to your preferred charity with heartfelt thanks.
