R Blake Gieg passed away peacefully, Thursday March 26th at the North Bay Regional Hospital.
Blake will be missed by his wife Marion, of over 70 years together. He will be joining his 1st daughter Deborah Lynn, leaving behind his daughter Kathy Anderson (Gieg) (Terry), son Robert (Sandy), grandchildren Debbie, Kyle, Joshua, great grandchildren Zoe & Emelyn.
Blake was born November 30th,1931 in Regina, Saskatchewan to George and Ethel Gieg. Dad often spoke of their travel from Saskatchewan by rail to Ontario, at the age of 14. He had several occupations - fisherman on Georgian Bay, type setter for The Meaford Express, owner of Southeaster newspaper in Ottawa. He then decided he would further his education and attended Great Lakes Christian College for ministerial training. He was a preacher in Ottawa, Hamilton, Barrie and Stoney Creek. He ended his career working for the Canadian Bible Society as Assistant to General Secretary. Once retired, he moved to Trenton where he and his youngest brother travelled all over Canada and US searching for 1944 Willie Jeep Parts. Jack and Blake restored several Jeeps. He also performed numerous wedding ceremonies.
When speaking to people of Dad’s passing, so many comments were along the line of a gentle, caring, loving and sweet man.
Thank you for the loving care Mom gave Dad until he was hospitalized for the last 4 months. He was under excellent care at North Bay Hospital, and we thank all the doctors and nursing staff for their passion and care.
