Rob passed away gently on Sunday August 28th, 2016 in the company of loving friends at North Bay Regional Health Centre after living a full and remarkably independent life to the last. Predeceased by his wife Elaine Roy (nee Farmer) and his son John Arthur Roy, he is survived by Rob Roy Jr. of Saskatoon, Janet Roy (Paul Holland) of Gananoque and Alexander Nesbitt Roy of Victoria. He is lovingly remembered by his grandchildren Emma Roy (Shanna Ong) and Jonah Davison-Roy, and his sister Marnie Roy (Gordon Hendery) of Burlington. He is also uniquely remembered by the many patrons frequenting the ‘Bean There Cafe’ where he was a delightful presence, sitting there having his tea and interacting with everyone he encountered with his own natural wit, genuine enthusiasm and characteristic charm. Rob had a wide interest and a keen insight into many subjects and he enjoyed conversing with people from all walks of life and from every age group. To those who knew him best, he was a fun loving and gracious friend; a glass of red wine in his hand and a happy twinkle in his eye, he loved to ask questions and he valued what you thought about things. His life-time occupation was as a professional welding engineer from which he never retired, working actively until three days before his passing. Largely self-made and self-taught, his acute sense for problem solving along with his life-time of practical experience made him a well respected resource and mentor in his field. Rob was a true gentleman in the finest sense of the word. His life was a testament to that principle. He will be greatly missed.

In Rob’s honour there will be a Celebration of Life held at the ‘Bean There Cafe’, tentatively set for 2pm to 8 pm on October 1st, 2016.
