George Henry Salovaara

  It is with great sadness and sorrow that we announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father and papa on Sunday December 18th 2016 at Eastholme. He will be sadly missed by his beloved wife Kirsti (Ranta) his sons, Mark (Elaine), Michael (Yuki), John and Dan.  Loving papa to Maria, Anna and Henri. Uncle to Barry (Tina), Paul, Norma (Mike), Karen, Peter, Steve, Kathy (Chris), Rick (Olivia), Susan (Dan) and Darren.  Predeceased by his parents John and Selma his son Lauri, sisters Ebba, Hilda (Burt) and his brother Van (Olive).                                          Dad was forever in his garden, a place he seemed to find peace.  He will be remembered for the vegetables he sold at the farmer’s market and from his home. Dad was an active member of Alcoholics Anonymous for many years, worked as a PNA 2 at the North Bay Psychiatric hospital for over 20 years, was the first Health and Safety Co-ordinator and had that position for the last five years of his career.  He enjoyed his union work, serving on Machar Council several times and advocating for safe working conditions.   Visitation at Raney funeral chapel on Tuesday, December 27th, 2016 from 2-4 p.m. Funeral Service at Raney Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, December 28th, 2016 at 2 p.m. Memorial donations to the South River Food bank would be greatly acknowledged as expressions of sympathy.  Online condolences may be made at www.raneyfuneralchapel.ca
